Time is money
Like door-to-door salespeople, junk mail, email, and telemarketing can be unwelcome daily visitors. Even 1 minute of day wasted on things you’d rather not bother with works out to 6 hours a year. Here are some quick tips on how to save loads of time each year that you can spend on your family, relaxing, or writing blogs:
1. Credit card offers. Go to OptOutPrescreen.com and opt out. You can either fill in a form online which will opt you out for 5 years, or opt out permanently. The permanent opt out includes the online 5 year opt out, so that might be the best option for long term sanity.
2. Junk mail. The Direct Marketing Association will let you opt out of most junk mail from this page. Just click on the “register” button. Note that this won’t get rid of mail addressed to “occupant” or is from someone you have already done business with.
3. Telemarketers. Almost the entire nation knows about donotcall.gov because of the sheer irritation telemarketing can generate.
4. An unpublished telephone number, if you still have a land line. This will keep out all sorts of unwanted calls beyond telemarketers. Note that an unlisted number just means that it isn’t listed in the white pages — the number is still public. An unpublished number means a number hidden from the public. The phone company will likely make you pay for this “privilege”.
